Pre-School Room

At Fountain Springs Day Nursery our emphasis is on preparing our older children so that they are ready for school. We provide opportunities for your child to learn the skills that will support them for school life.

We incorporate the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) into our daily activities and experiences. We support children’s maths development by integrating maths into every area of the room, so children are always learning in a relaxed, fun environment.

The Pre-School Room is a large open plan area divided into distinct continuous provision area stocked with challenging resources and activities to promote learning and development including a Smart Board for visual learning activities and a child sized kitchen. Children are involved in snack preparation and baking activities. Children also regularly carry out PE sessions PE kits are provided.

As part of the ‘school readiness’ emphasis pre-school access the canteen in the Malting building to promote meal times in a ‘school environment’.

We also introduce phase one phonics which will support linking sounds and letters in the order in which they occur in words, and naming and sounding the letters of the alphabet.

The pre-school room is divided into distinct ‘learning areas’, each stocked with resources that focus on a particular area of learning. Our aim is for children to be confident and independent investigators and explorers.

Our children have free-flow access to outdoors throughout the day as we believe learning outside supports the development of healthy and active lifestyles by offering children opportunities for physical activity, freedom and movement, and promoting a sense of well-being.

There is a great emphasis to effectively prepare children for transition into primary school building confident and independence in school. We work  closely and network  with  a number of  primary schools in the local area supporting effective transitions.

As it gets nearer to that time of year we make positive links to your child’s new school and we will invite their new teacher to nursery to discuss your child’s development and to help your child familiarise themselves with their new teacher.
